Seems that MTV is finally realizing that the youth culture may not be as attached to the channel as it once was. This Wired article is a look at how MYV hopes that the 3-D world of Second Life may be able to rescue it!
The 3d virtual world isn’t synonymous with second life – mtv actually isn’t in sl at all. They’ve built a standalone metaverse using the makena platform (the tech that underlies there.com.) So the question is whether mtv can create a resonant, relevant stand alone metaverse for an audience that may not think the mtv core brands themselves are relevant to them. Time will tell. (Disclosure – I’ve got a client, cingular, who is embedded in vmtv.)
Great post, thanks for the info
