I just came across a sneak-peek of the new Firefox interface for mobile on TechCrunch. And I have to say I’m pretty impressed. I am not sure how close to complete the project really is, but so far so good.

Either way I am excited about the new browser that may finally appear next week. Once this new edition makes its way to my desktop (which will be very quickly) I will be kicking the tires on it and reporting back.
Until then, love to here your projections as to the viability of the new mobile interface.
Two things – Flash support and stability. Stability is important for adoption and Firefox should be able to deliver. But more importantly, not until you can watch flash-based videos on the iPhone, besides YouTube, it is hard to say which mobile browser will be the most viable.
Viability of a browser to accomodate Flash is crucial. I say this because until you can watch YouPorn on your iPhone, Apple is playing a losing game. Back in the 80’s, Betamax, although a superior technology for rendering video, lost out to VHS because people could rent porn on VHS but not on Betamax. Sony, the owner of Betamax, wouldn’t allow it until it was too late.
People don’t like to admit it, but porn is a driving force on the internet like it was back in the days of the emerging video rental market. Check the top 100 internet searched for keyphrases – you know it and I know it. Although the iPhone has changed mobile forever, too much control over their slick brick is going to hurt them badly. If they don’t hurry.
Together, Firefox and YouPorn will rule the world, not Safari and YouTube. And once again, history will repeat itself with Apple being the market innovator but not the market dominator.
